Westben Kids - Carnival of the Animals with Donna!

Hi Everyone,

Music makes me smile and I’m hoping it does the same for you.  Of course, music can make us feel many different emotions and that’s a great thing too!  Over the next few weeks, I’d love to share with you some of my favourite music, warm-up games and link you to some of the many great musicians in the world.

Here we go!

#1 Carnival of the Animals

What do animals, music and kids have in common? Sunshine, jumping and fun.

Grab some rhythm sticks (or wooden spoons), some ribbons (or scarves) and join in the music of Carnival of the Animals by the French composer Camille Saint-Saëns.  There are 14 animals and 14 sections with ideas for playing along.

The music is played by the London Sinfonietta Philharmonia Orchestra and conducted by Charles Dutoit

Watch and play here

“The animal with long ears” reminds me of my pet donkey.  Is your pet one of the animals in the carnival?

One of the sections has been featured in over 5 movies.  Can you guess which one?

Draw your favourite animals on the Westben Barn Colouring below.

If you’d like to share your animals at The Barn colouring or let me know your favourite song, musician or musical activity, email me at westben@westben.ca

Thanks to Trent Hills Canadian Tire and Finley & Associates for sponsoring Westben’s youth programming.  Westben has four youth choirs, three community bands, electronic music workshops and free new music public workshops.
