Accidental Ornithology
Friday, August 1 - 4:30 pm
Prior to SHEBAD in The Barn
Join bassist-composer Ben Finley for a listening session featuring unreleased studio recordings of his piece Bird Loops, performed by the Desert Quill Quartet. Threading the melodies of birds like the Eastern Wood-Pewee, mourning dove, Eastern Meadowlark, and robin into a rich blend of composition and improvisation, Finley reflects on how artists can listen and create with shared environments, and how music might give back through acts of ecological care and habitat reciprocity.
This gentle, interactive gathering invites us to listen and engage more closely with the world around us—and perhaps even experiment with bird calls of your own, along the way. No experience needed—just curiosity
Watch the Desert Quill’s performance of Bird Loops at Westben here.
