Amy Hillis

Saturday, November 20th at 8:00 pm - Digital Concert, premiering on YouTube

Sunshine, fresh air, and a solo violin! Violinist Amy Hillis performs amidst the splendour of the Westben Barn and meadow, as well as in the enchanting Mary West Reserve. There is no end to the enthusiastic curiosity of this exciting young Canadian violinist.

Loved by Westben audiences for her scintillating performance of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons in 2019, Amy explores an array of music for solo violin written over the past 250 years including the music of Bach, Michael Oesterle, Vincent Ho, Reena Esmail, Owen Zammit, and the Indigenous composer Wesley Hardisty.

About Amy Hillis

As a violinist, Amy has "a rich, warm sound and has mastered the violin with such ease, that it is impossible to ignore her passion in performance" (Ludwig Van Montréal). Originally from Regina, Saskatchewan, Amy now collaborates with performers and composers around the world to explore new approaches to classical and contemporary music. She has commissioned and premiered new Canadian works by Jocelyn Morlock, Nicole Lizée, Carmen Braden, Randolph Peters, and Jordan Pal. As part of the meagan&amy duo, Amy was selected as the winner of the inaugural "Pan-Canadian Recital Tour" to perform 50 recitals across all thirteen Canadian provinces and territories during the 2019-2020 season.

Her duo’s debut album titled Roots demonstrates the connections between select Canadian compositions and works from the traditional canon of classical repertoire. Amy is the winner of the Eckhardt-Gramatté National Music Competition, an artistic residency at La Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, the McGill Concerto Competition, and the Sylva Gelber Foundation Music Award. Amy performs on the 1902 Enrico Rocca violin, on loan from the Canada Council for the Arts Musical Instrument Bank.
