The Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir came together under the direction of Dr. Trevor W. Payne C.M. in 1982 for what was meant to be a one-time collaboration concert between the Montreal Black Community Youth Choir and the United Union Church Senior Choir. Over three decades later, this award-winning choir has gained an international reputation. They have travelled across Canada and toured the United States and Europe performing before Canadian Prime Ministers, including Brian Mulroney, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, Jean Chrétien and Stephen Harper as well as world leaders like Nelson Mandela and Queen Elizabeth II. The Choir has also collaborated with some of the music industry's biggest names such as Celine Dion, Ray Charles, Michael Bolton and New Kids on the Block. They have released a dozen albums on the Justin Time label including, two retrospectives and their most recent release the seasonal 'A Celebration In Time.' Dr. Payne is the proud recipient of Her Majesty's Golden and Diamond Jubilees as well as the Order of Canada, the Gala Soba Image Award and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Achievement Award for his promotion of gospel music. In 2014 The Montreal Jubilation Gospel Choir were invited to make their company debut, with the Opéra de Montréal - alongside Canadian Measha Brueggergosman, and featuring Marie-Josée Lord. The production of George Gershwin's masterpiece Porgy & Bess was a huge success.
Although Dr. Payne has retired from performing, he remains behind the scenes as artistic director and producer, maintaining the highest level of professionalism that you have come to expect and enjoy from the Choir.
