Leonard Gilbert

Born in Toronto, Canada, 19 year old Leonard Gilbert is currently studying in the Jacobs School of Music at IndianaUniversity with distinguished professor Menahem Pressler. Among his many prizes and awards, Mr. Gilbert recently dazzled audiences and judges of the Canadian Music Competitions national final, 2009 in Montreal, when at age eighteen he was awarded 1st prize in the age 25 category; the highest division of the competition. He was also a prize winner of the “Best Performance of a Romantic Work” at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra Competition (2009), Grand Prize winner of the President’s trophy at the Kiwanis Music Festival (2008), winner of the Chopin trophy and Grand Prize at the Markham Music Festival (2008), and 2nd prize winner at the World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, Ohio (2006).  In 2008, Mr. Gilbert was invited to give a solo recital at BaptistUniversity in Hong Kong, China, and was also invited to perform at the Stratford Summer Music Festival in memory of composer Harry Somers. In 2008, he was a featured soloist with the Esprit Orchestra in Toronto.
