Gabrielle Prata, mezzo-soprano

 

Mezzo soprano Gabrielle Prata made her New York debut as Rosina in National Grand Opera’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia, which she had previously interpreted for Opera Hamilton and Pacific Opera, Victoria. She has appeared at the Bermuda Festival (Angelina, La Cenerentola), Colorado Music Festival (Ramiro, La Finta Giardiniera), Opera North, NH (Carmen), Gold Coast Opera, FL (Adalgisa, Norma) Nevada Opera (Hansel, Hansel and Gretel), and has performed leading roles with Boheme Opera, NJ, Opera Lyra, Calgary Opera, Edmonton Opera and Anchorage Opera. Gabrielle’s many roles with the Canadian Opera Company include Suzuki in Madama Butterfly,  Miss Jessel in The Turn of the Screw, Nicklausse in The Tales of Hoffmann, the Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors, Penelope in Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria and Nancy in Albert Herring. Gabrielle has performed a wide range of music from pops to oratorio with the symphonies of Toronto, Cincinnati, Detroit, Indianapolis, Spokane, and Saskatoon, as well as with the Guelph Spring Festival, Meadowbrook and Ravinia Festivals. She was seen most recently as Lalume in Toronto Operetta Theatre’s Kismet. Last summer Gabrielle created the role of Madame Whicher in the world premiere of Rapunzel with the Westben Festival.
