Do you have a closet, attic or garage just bursting with great treasures that you will likely never use again? Have you ever considered donating them to a worthy charity (such as Westben), but thought it would be too much work? Well, now donating is only a click away! Welcome to Gift-it, the new online market place supporting charitable organizations just like Westben.
What is Gift-it? Gift-it is an online service that allows anyone to sell a good or service to another person, with the proceeds from such a sale going directly to a designated Charity. In return, the seller receives a tax receipt from the Charity for the value of the sale.
What makes Gift-it different from other online market places? Gift-it is similar in many ways to other online market places like Craig’s List or Kijiji. The major difference is that your favourite Charity receives the money from the sale, and you (the seller) receive a tax receipt. Think of it as a combination of Kijiji and CanadaHelps.com.
How do I use Gift-it? Simply go to www.gift-it.com and create an account as a Donor. Earmark Westben as your “Charity of Choice”. Post your item, wait for browsers to bid, and accept the bid you like. Once you complete the sale with the buyer, you remit the money to Westben in exchange for a tax receipt.
How does it work? Gift-it is 100% FREE to use for the Seller (Donor) and the Buyer. Posting, browsing and buying costs you nothing. Once there is a sale, the Charity receives the full amount of the sale and then remits a small percentage back to Gift-it. The Seller then receives a tax receipt for the net amount received by the Charity. Everyone wins!

If so, you may wish to support Westben’s ongoing fundraising initiative, the Fundscrip program. Simply by paying for your everyday purchases with gift cards bought through the FundScrip program, you will be fundraising for Westben.
