Mezzo soprano Gabrielle Prata enjoys a diverse career and has been featured on opera, musical, concert and film stages. She has performed extensively with the Canadian Opera Company, most recently in their production of War and Peace. Previous roles for the COC include Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Nancy in Albert Herring, Penelope in Il Ritorno d'Ulisse in Patria and Nicklausse in Tales of Hoffman. A favourite with Toronto Operetta Theatre, Gabrielle most recently portrayed the role of Caroline in Leo the Royal Cadet. She made her New York debut as Rosina in National Grand Opera's Il Barbiere di Siviglia, which she also sang for Opera Hamilton and Pacific Opera. Gabrielle sang the title role in Carmen with Opera North to critical acclaim, Adalgisa in Norma with Gold Coast Opera, FL, and has appeared with the festivals of Bermuda, Ravinia, Colorado, and Oregon Bach, as well as Edmonton Opera, Calgary Opera, Opera Lyra, Anchorage Opera, and Boheme Opera, NJ.
Gabrielle has performed a varied repertoire of pops and Broadway concerts with leading symphonies and festivals which include the Cincinnati Pops, Toronto, Detroit, Spokane, Peterborough, Winnipeg and Saskatoon Symphonies, as well as the Rochester Philharmonic. She made her film debut in Closing the Ring starring Shirley MacLaine and Christopher Plummer and was featured last season on the TV series Copper.
A frequent guest artist with the Westben Arts Festival, Gabrielle has created the roles of Madame Whicher in Rapunzel written by Brian Finley, and Virginia Snow in The Selfish Giant, created by Brian Finley and Ken Tizzard.
