Just want to say how much I enjoyed the concert presented by Donna and Brian this past Tuesday.  It was superb, with a fantastic selection that showcased the talents of both of these excellent musicians.  Their ad-libs and teasing made the evening more intimate and fun.  Thanks, Donna, for singing one of my favourites, Dvorak’s Song to the Moon.  It brought tears to my eyes.  Kudos to Brian for the lovely Preludes to Canada (his compositions) and his sensitive renditions of the Rachmaninoff Preludes.  The tribute to Doug Keene (long-time volunteer and grounds-keeper) was really first-class.  Doug must have been so pleased.

I am reminded yet again how fortunate we are in having this world-class music so close by.

My memory’s a recent one, as Westben is new to me. It was the Friday before the Beethoven 9th performance. I’d come up with my partner, Keith, who was one of the soloists, so I was allowed to listen in to the first rehearsal. The sun was perfect, gloriously warm. The wind softly rustled the fields in all directions. I laid on the grass and watched clouds laze by while the most gorgeous music poured out the barn doors. So many voices, such richness! I’ve never heard the Ninth live. It is one of those moments I will remember always as completely, profoundly beautiful. Thank you, Westben. Congratulations on your anniversary!
